Angel in a Devils Arms

By Julie Anne Long

This was a lovey book about two people who both overcame terrible struggles in their past to come together and set up their futures for success.

Lord Bolt has returned from the dead, or at least he was thought dead when he was pushed into the Thames after a night of partying. He wants to start over, take revenge on those who have wronged him, and reconnect with his Ducal father. He gets a room at the Grand Palace on the Thames and sets his sites on the building next door, in hopes of buying it and turning it into a gaming hall.

Angelique Breedlove is one of two proprietresses at the boarding house. She was abandoned by family and did what she had to to survive. I wish I had read the first book in this series first, Lady Derring Takes a Lover, because I think it would have provided more back story and exposition on her and her fellow proprietress, Mrs. Delilah Harding.

I have a strange compassion for Angelique. I found her hard to relate to and couldn’t understand all the decisions she made. She was a very private and protective person and I never felt like I could warm up to her. But I really liked her. And I like her loyalty to her friends, employers, and to Bolt.

Their love story was sweet and the two ended up being a perfect match for each other.
