My original goal was to read 40 books this year, but with quarantine and more time at home, I was able to read 63. Of those, I have compiled my top 10. These top 10 books of 2020 include historical romance, contemporary romance, fiction and nonfiction. What was your favorite book that you read in 2020?
10. My Fake Rake by Eva Leigh
This book starts with a group of friends meeting in detention like The Breakfast Club and features a makeover where the hot blonde removes their spectacles and underneath… he’s a handsome rake! I loved this delightful book.
9. The Kingmaker by Kennedy Ryan
This book was intense and wonderful. It tore me apart and then built me back up again.
Also check out my review of the second book in this duet, The Rebel King.
8. Beach Read by Emily Henry
This title totally suits this book – it is breezy and fun to read but also deep and emotional and romantic. A second chance romance for two authors who are sharing a summer in adjacent beach houses and working to fight off their writer’s blocks.
7. Rebel by Beverly Jenkins
I cried and smiled and swooned while reading about the brave actions of Valinda and Captain Drake as they work to find happiness for themselves and help protect those around them.
Elizabeth Hoyt is a favorite historical romance author of mine. I was not a fan of the first book in her new series but the second book, When A Rogue Meets His Match, reminds me of her earlier books that I adored. With nicely developed characters and a ton of intrigue, this will definitely be a book I come back to in the future.
5. Caste by Isabel Wilkerson
This was my only nonfiction book on the top 10 list, but such an important one. 2020 was a year of social justice and racial reckoning and Wilkerson’s book explores the caste system that developed in America and is still in place today.
A new favorite book from a wonderful author, I absolutely loved the first book in the Sins for All Seasons series by Lorraine Heath. This tale of revenge with a love triangle and intrigue was so captivating and heart felt.
A fascinating story about a girl’s solitary life in the North Carolina marshlands.
A romance between determined and intense Tom Severin and beautiful and curious Cassandra.
Oh how I absolutely loved this wonderful romance about Poppy, a shopgirl, whose crush, the Duke falls into a coma. She is mistaken for his fiancee and welcomed in by the Duke’s family, with the exception of the Duke’s sexy Scottish half-brother who has suspicions about Poppy. Lovely and just the right about tension, I truly adored this book.
Thank you for reading. I hope you enjoyed my Top 10 Books of 2020.
