By Elizabeth Hoyt
Elizabeth Hoyt is one of my favorite historical romance authors, as well as one of the first ones that I read. Whenever she comes out with a new book, they are an auto buy for me and I was so excited to unwrap her newest book, When a Rogue Meets His Match, this Christmas.
I wasn’t the biggest fan of the first book in this series, Not The Duke’s Darling, but this second book delivered all the intrigue, excitement and romance that I have come to adore from Hoyt. Even when I don’t love a book from her, I can be guaranteed a good read.
Fortunately, When a Rogue Meets His Match is one of her best books yet. Messalina Greycourt is protective of her siblings after a tragedy struck them many years ago. They have sort of scattered around, with Messalina keeping her younger sister safe and living with her horrible uncle, the Duke of Windmere.
The Duke of Windmere strikes a deal with his bully fixer, Gideon Hawthorne, in exchange for his nieces hand in marriage. Gideon has only had eyes for Messalina since they were both teenagers and he was working for her uncle. Now, many years later, he will do anything to have her.
This book was intriguing, suspenseful, and touching. Messalina’s duty to her sister was so honorable and her self respect and ambition were admirable. Gideon, with his scar face and sneering mouth, was dangerous and terrifying yet so sexy.
Gideon offered Messalina a blank slate, bare rooms in his house to decorate, and an opportunity to create a new life as she sees fit. I loved getting to know the other members of the Greycourt family and I can’t wait for the rest of this series.
